Product Line Management

Product Line Management at Harris RF means a lot of things: it’s part sales, part engineering management, part market research, part marketing.  In short, it can be a challenging job.  I was in the unique position of having my first product be a brand new product, which allowed me to work on it all the way from concept to production release, which was an amazing journey.

Here’s the job description in bullet form:

  • Market Analysis: interviewed sales folks, dug through the data, presented concepts to customers, trying to confirm if we were going the right direction.
  • Business Plan: Author and defend a plan that shows that what we’re doing has value to the business and our customers.
  • Design & Development: Brought in third party design firms to help us realize our vision along with our internal engineering team.  User Profiles, Journey Maps, User Stories, Discovery Sessions: these tools have helped us define the product.
  • Balance Outsource & Insource: in order to reach the market quickly, I’ve formed partnerships with external vendors and outsource shops and maintained those relationships.
  • Product Marketing: Go-to-market strategy, working with Marketing Communications to create websites, print collateral and promotional videos.
