Hobbyist

There’s always something to tinker with, a book to read, a movie to watch, or a destination to seek.

Engineer

I’ve spent worked on cutting edge communication technology with people all over the world.

Harris RF Communications

Harris RF Communications is the leading global supplier of secure radio communications, tactical communication networks and embedded high-grade encryption solutions for military, public safety, government and commercial customers.   Working there for the last twelve years, I’ve coded real-time, embedded communication protocols, performed hundreds of customer demonstrations, and led the justification, design and development of a brand new software product.

I first encountered Harris at a job fair in Auburn–they are easily recognizable by their Hawaiian shirts, a reference to headquarters being by the beach on Florida’s “Space Coast.”  Just looking at the technology they were developing, I knew I had to be involved.  Embedded encryption, ad-hoc networking with real-time, life or death consequences: truly that was the tip of the technology spear.

University of Rochester

The Simon Business School at the University of Rochester is a nationally and internationally ranked business school with a strong reputation for its Finance program, and as a destination for international students–current students hail from 83 different countries!  I attended part time and at night, and graduated with an MBA in 2014 with concentrations in both Marketing and Entrepreneurship.

One of the most valuable lessons I learned at Simon was the value of teamwork.  Every class required teams to work together on projects, oftentimes balancing families and careers, but everyone sharing responsibility for the outcome.  Depending on others while being dependable is a cornerstone in the modern, distributed work environment where teams are scattered all over the world and coordination is difficult.

Auburn University

Auburn, Alabama is known around the south as “the loveliest village on the plains.”  It is not only a football powerhouse, but an engineering education powerhouse, annually graduating nearly 700 engineers in fields ranging from Aerospace to Fiber Engineering.  I graduated with a BS in Computer Science in 2003, and spent the next year and a half working on an MS under Dr. Drew Hamilton as a research assistant in security and simulation.
